Windows Programs
In Windows XP click Start,
then Run and enter cmd
(or point to
All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click
Command Prompt and enter)
at the command prompt >, enter one of the following programs:
- ipconfig to see your current TCP/IP settings
- or ipconfig /all
to see all the IP address settings
- or ipconfig /release
to release the IP address settings
- or ipconfig /renew
to renew all the IP address settings
- or ipconfig /help
to see all the optional parameters

- ping e.g. Try entering
"ping www.novell.com"
or "ping www.microsoft.com"
- tracert e.g. Try entering
"tracert www.microsoft.com"
- dxdiag - to check on your current PC configurations
In other Windows versions, at the DOS command prompt
>, enter one of the following programs:
- Run winipcfg to see your current TCP/IP settings
- Run ping e.g. Try to "ping www.novell.com" or
"ping www.microsoft.com".
- Run tracert e.g. Try to "tracert www.microsoft.com"
- Run dxdiag - to check on your current PC configurations
