Can Google Home compete OK with Alexa around the office?

7 ways to use Alexa/Google Home around the office - https://www.cnet.com/how-to/7-ways-to-use-alexa-around-the-office/ - 2018 02

If you plan on using an Alexa speaker at work, make sure you disable voice shopping or better enable a PIN for security. And set up a voice profile so Alexa will recognize your voice and distinguish it from other people around.

I think Google Home can do similar things in distinguishing people - but does it have a PIN for extra security?

  1. Add meetings to your calendar - both systems do this task well - "The most relevant Alexa feature for the office is maintaining your calendar. Whether it's a big deadline or a meeting you have to attend, add it to your calendar using Alexa. First, add your calendar by going to alexa.amazon.com or opening the Alexa app and going to Settings > Calendar. Select your calendar of choice (Google Calendar, G Suite, Outlook, Office 365 or iCloud) and log in to your account. After your calendar is added, just say, "Alexa, add an event to my calendar."

To have Alexa/Google read your calendar entries to you, say, "Alexa/OK Google, what's on my calendar?" Or you can say, "Alexa/OK Google, when is my next event?" or "Alexa/OK Google, what's on my calendar tomorrow at [time]?" or "OK Google, what's on my calendar this week?"

  2. Make a to-do list - "Alexa, add 'go to the post office' to my to-do list" - Google Home says - sorry to-do list is not yeat supported, the Calendar function would be the closest
  3. Build a shopping list - "Alexa/OK Google, add HP61 ink to the shopping cart" - Google Home adds it to your cart and gives you a price quote as well.
  4. Reorder supplies - "Alexa reorder K-cup coffee"
  5. Play podcasts and audiobooks - "Alexa/OKGoogle play the CNN podcast" - Alexa play live CNN, Google plays a recent podcast.
  6. Listen to ambient noise or focus music - "Alexa/OK Google play light classical music" - both produce good music.
  7. Make a Pomodoro timer - set a timer to work for an hour and break for 10 minutes - "Alexa set a work timer for 1 hour" "OK Google set a time for 1 hour"
